Art Center hosting summer camps, Mother’s Day tea, studio hours

Spring is in the air and there is a lot of buzz at the Art Center of the Bluegrass. Plan a visit in May, take a class, grab a bite, and experience our vibrant arts community in the heart of downtown Danville.

Summer Camps

When school is out, art is in! The Art Center of the Bluegrass offers summer camps for children from 4 years to 12th grade. We offer full-day, half-day, and mini-camps throughout the summer. Register now for sessions beginning May 28 through Aug. 9.

We offer full-day camps for children who are rising into 1st through 5th grade, and half-day camps for those headed into kindergarten through 5th grade. An 11-week camp is also available for kids headed into 1st through 5th grade. These camps include drawing, painting, art skills, LEGO and culinary camps, and so much more.

For youngsters ages 4 to 6, we offer two-day mini-camps, including LEGO Camp, Fairies and Mermaids Camp, and Castles and Wizards Camp too.

Tweens and teens can explore their artistic abilities with full and half-day pottery classes, culinary camps, and sewing.

New this year we will offer Snack Punch Cards. Get 10 punches for $10 to purchase healthy snacks during camp hours.

Explore in the Art Studio

Drop in the Art Studio at the Art Center of the Bluegrass during our Open Studio hours to create a craft project, paint pottery, and explore your creativity. We offer Open Studio from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 pm. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

New in May, we will offer Art Studio Punch Cards. Come and enjoy five hour-long sessions of art exploration in the Art Studio for $75 with the purchase of a Punch Card. Paint a canvas, make a craft project, or give a Punch Card as a gift. Paint-your-own pottery is not included.

May’s Starry Night Studio is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3. Join Joseph Eastham for an evening workshop and create a hand-built clay succulent pot. Starry Night Studio is for ages 14 and up. Grab a snack box, a glass of wine, or other libations before the class at Murini Cafe!

Friday mornings are for our littlest artists, and we are happy to announce our Mini Makers Club will continue throughout the summer months. For ages five and under, our Mini Makers Club is every Friday morning from 9 a.m. until noon. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Mini Makers Club is free, with donations greatly appreciated.

Lunch with the Arts

Our ever-popular Lunch with the Arts series returns in May for a visit with acclaimed author and associate professor of English at Northern Kentucky University, Jessica Hindman. Spend your lunch with the arts, grab a bite at Murini Cafe, and enjoy a conversation with Hindman. Admission is $5.

Mother’s Day Tea at Murini Cafe

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12 and there’s no better way to spoil Mom than a visit to Murini Cafe for our special Mother’s Day Tea on Tuesday, May 7. Indulge in a selection of traditional sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and delectable desserts. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day with elegance and charm. Gallery Hop 

Stop into the Art Center of the Bluegrass during the May 30 Gallery Hop in downtown Danville. Hosted by the Danville Art Commission, Gallery Hop features artists throughout the city. Here at the Art Center, we will feature our Resident Artists and Ceramic Studio Members. Stop by between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
