Published 5:15 pm Friday, May 3, 2024
The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities, special events, and services for the community. Interactive activities often include storytimes, author visits, crafting, and book clubs. This month, library staff have scaled back their regularly scheduled youth events to prepare for an activity-packed, all-ages summer reading program, which kicks off on May 29. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:
Healthy Choices
On Monday, May 6 at 1:00 PM, the library will host “Healthy Choices.” Offered in partnership with the Boyle County Extension Office, this program series includes lessons focused on cooking skills and stretching your food dollars. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Library Game Night
Join us for Library Game Night on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:00-8:00 PM. This is a social event for all-ages where you, your family, and your peers can come and enjoy a fun night of pizza, competition, and cooperation. The library will provide the food and a full collection of board games. Staff will be available to help you learn the games. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)
Pop-up Potluck and Social Mixer
On Thursday, May 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM, share your favorite recipes and learn some new ones in the best way possible — by eating them with friends! This month’s theme is Comfort Food. Alethea Bruzek with the Boyle County Extension Office will get things started, but all are encouraged to bring something in. This is a social event with food to share, friends to be made, and fun to be had. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Brandon Long Art Exhibit Opening Reception
The Library will host the Opening Reception of “Where You Been? New Art by Brandon Long” on Thursday, May 9 from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery. The exhibit, which runs May 1-29, features a collection of works in varying styles, including recycled metal assemblage, portraits, and landscapes. Long is a multi-disciplinary artist from Lancaster, Kentucky. Although he works in a variety of media – he prefers to utilize repurposed and recycled materials to create layered, meaningful work. Aside from creating his own body of mixed-media work, he also works as a muralist, graphic designer, and an arts educator. The Gallery is located on the main level of the Boyle County Public Library. Throughout the year various artists are featured in the gallery, highlighting their talents and making art accessible to everyone. (All ages)
