Sarah Ann Taylor Hughes passed away on May 8, 2024 at The Masonic Home in Louisville Ky. She was born September 4, 1932 in Owensboro, KY. She was raised in Lewisport, KY by her parents C. Waitman Taylor, and Adelaide Longest Taylor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Taylor Hughes Jr., her beloved daughter Julia Harding Hughes, and her brothers C. Waitman Taylor Jr. and William Longest Taylor.
She is survived by her son James Taylor Hughes Ill, daughter in law, Jennifer Smith, granddaughters, Ellie Hughes and Elizabeth Reid Smith, and grandson, Holt Smith. Family was very important to Sarah Ann, and she enjoyed many family gatherings at the family farm with a host of nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She graduated from Lewisport High School and went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta. She was very proud that her entire family for a century attended and graduated from UK. One of her passions was watching the Wildcats play basketball. She cheered them on from courtside for many years, and later hosted parties to watch them from home.
Sarah Ann taught at the Jefferson’s County Children’s Home until she married. She then moved to Danville and continued teaching at the Deaf Oral School for seven years. After enjoying 27 beautiful years in Danville raising their children, the Hughes family returned to Louisville where Sarah Ann enjoyed working at the Voice Tribune for seven years.
Sarah Ann enjoyed a long, full, life, spending time with family and friends. She never met a stranger, and provided many laughs to those who were lucky enough to spend time with her. She was a talented cook, elegant decorator, and skilled gardener. She loved helping others, and sharing her witty, boisterous, and fun spirit with her colleagues and friends.
Visitation will be held 3-6pm Friday, May 17, 2024 at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Ln. Burial at Cave Hill Cemetery will be private.
