DCA’s Dut wins two events at regional track meet; DCA girls 3rd, boys 4th

Emmanuel Dut of Danville Christian won two regional track and field championships Saturday at the Class 1A, Region 5 championships in Lexington.
Dut, who was second in the state in the Class 1A boys 400-meter dash last season, won the 200 and 400 dashes in the regional meet.
The senior claimed two of the five regional titles won by area athletes in the meet at Lexington Christian.
The DCA girls finished third and the boys were fourth in the team standings. Burgin was fifth in girls standings and tied for seventh in the boys standings, and Danville was sixth among boys teams and tied for seventh among girls teams.
The Danville boys got a win from their 800 relay team of Chandon Carter, Trinden Sellers, Gavin Walker and Demontrae Trumbo, and Burgin’s Benjamin Gant won the boys 110 hurdles by .02 seconds.
Kate Hatfield of Burgin won the girls high jump and finished second in the triple jump.
First- and second-place finishers in regional meets qualify for the state meet May 30 in Lexington, along with 10 at-large qualifiers with the next-best teams from among the seven regionals.
