Boyle boys, girls sweep regional track titles

The Boyle County boys and girls track and field teams swept the team titles Tuesday in the Class 2A, Region 5 championships at Harrodsburg.

The Boyle girls won five of 18 girls events to win their first regional title since 2018, and the Boyle boys had six wins as they won for the first time since 2019.

The girls outscored defending champion Mercer County 140-136, while the boys outscored Corbin 166-143 and defending champion Mercer finished third.

Germani Crosby of Lincoln County was the only area athlete to win two regional titles in individual events in the meet at Alvis Johnson Field. Crosby won the girls shot put, where she is the defending Class 2A state champion, and discus.

Boyle’s girls won three of four relays and got individual wins from Kendra Christopher (long jump) and Reece Klosterman (pole vault).

The Boyle boys got wins from Eli Short (100-meter dash), J.D. Cooley (400), Andrew Nason (300 hurdles), Max Germann (3,200) and Andrew Lockhart (pole vault) and won one relay.

Crosby won her third consecutive regional title in the girls shot put, while Lockhart and Luke McQueen of Casey County (boys shot put) also repeated as regional champions.

First- and second-place finishers in regional meets qualify for the state meet May 31 in Lexington, along with 10 at-large qualifiers with the next-best teams from among the seven regionals.
