George Lewis Riley, 73, of Danville, KY (formerly of Jackson, KY) passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born on October 3, 1950, in Jackson, Kentucky to the late George and Annie Salyers Riley.
George was a man of many talents and passions. Known for his ability to fix anything, George was a retired auto technician whose love for problem-solving extended far beyond his workspace. He was a self-taught guitar player with a naturally beautiful singing voice, a songwriter, and a jack of all trades. But his true talent lay in his ability to talk to anyone; he never met a stranger. His open heart and wise words made him a pillar of support for those seeking advice in tough times. His love for gardening and woodworking showcased his patience and attention to detail, traits that were reflected in all aspects of his life.
George’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He attended Hebron Lakeside Church in Stanford, KY; he loved the Lord and his Faith was strong. His spirituality was reflected in his daily life and interactions with those around him. The verse from Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,” reflects George’s life perfectly. His light did shine before others, in his good deeds, his compassion, and his unwavering faith.
Survivors include his devoted companion and soulmate, Karen Hoskins Smith of Danville; two daughters, Tammy DeShay Harvey and Katrina Lee Riley, both of Jackson, KY; four grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Gardner (Caitlin), Caitlyn McKenzie Gardner, Jordan Fayeth Smith, and Joshua Kyle Harvey (Deanna); three great-grandchildren, Carson Kyle Smith, Baylor Shayde Smith and Kyle Lee Harvey; two sisters, Brenda Sue Collins (David) and Linda Carol Bailey (Charles); two bonus daughters, Tonya Saylor (Bill) and Candace Michelle Shorter; seven bonus grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Riley, and one sister, Sarah Agnus Fugate.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, Kentucky. The funeral service will follow on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 1:00pm at the same location. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.
