Five players reach second round at state tennis

Five area tennis players reached the second round of the KHSAA State Tennis Championships after winning first-round matches Tuesday.

Hannah Bischoff and Maya Smith of Boyle County advanced in the girls doubles bracket after a first-round win, as did Kyra Cain and Gracie Demrow of Casey County.

Sara Dunn of Mercer County won her first-round girls singles match before bowing out in the second round.

Two singles players and two doubles teams from area schools lost in the first round of the boys competition.

First Round

Noah Earlywine (Bourbon County) def. Carter Dilbeck (Danville) 6-2, 6-2.

Jacob Holland (Lexington Catholic) def. Skyler Lee (Casey County) 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles

First Round

(4) Zachary Thompson-Charlie Mooney (Lafayette) def. Sutton-King (Boyle County) 6-0, 6-0.

Owen Null-Anderson Smith (Mayfield) def. Toby Sallee-Xavier Paver (Lincoln County) 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).

Singles at Wilson Evans Tennis Complex, Berea

First Round

Sara Dunn (Mercer County) def. Briana Adams (Knott County Central) 6-2, 6-1.

Second Round

(9-16) Ella Cason (Owensboro Catholic) def. Dunn 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles at EKU Tennis Center, Richmond

First Round

Kyra Cain-Gracie Demrow (Casey County) def. Albany Ray-Emma Tagg (Madisonville-North Hopkins) 6-3, 6-3.

Hannah Bischoff-Maya Smith (Boyle County) def. Merrick Conkright-Cameron Chandler (Henderson County) 7-5, 6-0.

Second Round

(4) Arden Dethridge-Avery Overmohle (Greenwood) def. Cain-Demrow 6-0, 6-0.
