The two eventually bond as Abby gets some baby clothes.

The play “Ripcord” by David Lindsay-Abaire is opening Friday at West T. Hill Community Theater in Danville.

Performances will be June 14 to 16, and 21 to 23. Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows start at 3 p.m.

“Ripcord” follows the story of two older women living in the same room at Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. The sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate, but Abby Binder and Marilyn Dunne don’t want to share.

The cantankerous Abby tries to get rid of the sweet Marilyn, but she won’t budge. The two make seemingly harmless bets about who will get to enjoy the bed closest to the window, but it quickly escalates into a dangerous game.

Director Karen Logue said the play is funny, engaging, and can warm audiences’ hearts through the human connections.

“The physical humor is amazing and it is a joy to watch two older friends come to terms with being confined and away from family and friends,” Logue said. “The audiences are in for a roller coaster ride of sorts with very funny situations that turn on a dime into dramatic and touching moments.”

West T. Hill has not done this play before, as it was recently published in 2016. Logue said the playwriting is superb and the dialogue is attention-grabbing.

“It has both bawdy humor and pathos all at the same time,” she said. “The subject matter is timely and the dialogue hits on issues that seem to be challenging many of us today.”

Logue said the play contains some harsh language and some adult subject matter, and it probably rated PG-13.

Local actor Julie Taylor plays Abby, and Mary Carol Porter plays Marilyn. The supporting actors include Mark Porter, Kassidy Catron, Chris Sparrow and Jonah Cline.
