Thomas Ryan Royal, 61, of Chicago, Illinois and beloved husband to Christine M. Franz, passed away at home May 5, 2024. Born in Yokosuka, Japan to Loren Edward and the late Betty Jo (née Bee) Melton. Thomas is survived by his stepmother Sheree Anderson Royal; sisters Jodie (Doug) Royal Menish and Lori-Anne (Jonathan) Royal Clark; his nephews Samuel Forrest and Coleman Thomas Clark; and niece Edith Louise Clark. Tom was special to all who knew him, and he never met a stranger. For him life was an adventure whether that was living overseas, traveling, exploring Chicago or spending time at Tryon Farm. Always on the move, Tom was a swimmer, walker, ice skater, and swing dancer. A life-long learner, avid reader, movie buff, jazz enthusiast and lover of food. Tom also spoke three languages. It was Tom’s fondest wish to share his home with friends and family and all are invited to gather there to celebrate his life.
