Jerry David Mitchem Sr.

1945-2017

Jerry David Mitchem Sr., 72, of Danville, KY, formerly of Bluefield, WV, passed away on August 6, 2017.  He was born July 25, 1945 in Bluefield, WV to the late Nelson Mitchem and Margaret Bowman Mitchem.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and loved spending time not only with his family but his church family as well. Jerry was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, KY and a longtime member of Lorton Lick Baptist Church in Bluewell, WV.  

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Irene Johnson Mitchem of 42 years; his sons, Bobby F. Lowe Jr. and wife Melissa, Jerry “Dave” Mitchem Jr. and companion Teresa Morgan; daughters, Beverly Martel and husband Mike, Diana Pennington and husband Tommy. Grandchildren include, Amanda Tracy, Dylan Tracy, Rachel Doughton, Kimberly Smith, Hope Altizer, Megan Frost, Travis Frost, Aaron Frost, Justin Pennington. Kara Hale, Dalton Pennington, Drake Farmer, Mason Farmer and Kaylee Pennington. Great-grandchildren include, Jackson Harley, Cameron Hamilton, Cody Smith, Hunter Smith, Joshua Pennington, Matthew Loar, Alexa Loar, Leevi Webb and Parker Hale.

He is also survived by his brother Larry Mitchem and his wife Linda, his sister Brenda Matthews and her husband Ronnie and several nephews and nieces. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg, KY with Pastor Chris Orr officiating. Visitation will be from 5 pm until the time of services at the funeral home.

Jerry will be then be transferred to the Craven-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Rd, Bluefield, WV where a visitation will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 11 am until  12:30 pm followed by graveside services at 1 pm in the  Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 450 Courthouse Rd in Princeton, WV with Pastor Shawn Bragg officiating.
