Virginia Montgomery Asbery

1939-2018

Virginia Montgomery Asbery, 78, of Greenup, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 surrounded by her family in Community Hospice Care Center.

Virginia was born September 29, 1939, in Boyle County, Kentucky to the late Ernest and Janie Herring Gilpin. 

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Robert Ray Montgomery, and her second husband who passed in 2017, J.R. Asbery. She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Montgomery; and her brothers, Ernie Gilpin and Buddy Junior Ravencraft. 

Virginia along with her husband, Rev. Robert Ray Montgomery, served as pastor of the Parksville Church of God for over 30 years. She ministered inside the jails, nursing homes, and live radio programs for over 30 years. 

Virginia is survived by her sons, Johnny (Elizabeth) of Junction City, KY, Henry (Aggie) of Gilkey, North Carolina; daughters, Angela (Herbert) White, of Parksville, KY and Rebecca (Rob) Waggoner of Flatwoods, KY. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Charlie Gilpin of Mitchellsburg, Wanda Stratton of Mitchellsburg, Martha Sexton of Junction City, Jennifer Alsman, Roberta Gilpin, Tammy Maddux, Anthony Gilpin, Danny Gilpin, Marie Gilpin, and Carlos Gilpin; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services for Sister Virginia will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Danville Church of God by Dr. Dennis McQuire, Bishop Phillip Payne, Bishop Cornell H. Payne, and Bishop Steve Hobbs. Burial will follow on Monday in Parksville Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from Sunday, March 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Danville Church of God.
