News release
Mary Rudd of Wise Move Studio is offering two mindful movement workshops this month to benefit Grace Café.
This fundraiser is the first of its kind for Grace Café and emphasizes the goal of learning to move your body better in order to feel better overall. The workshops cost $50 each, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the café.
Grace Café’s mission aims to bring about a healthier, more vibrant community by offering fresh, local food to everyone who walks in the door, regardless of their ability to pay. These two missions are linked to bring about an improved quality of life for the citizens of our community.
The workshops teach participants how to pay attention to their bodies, to notice how they move and feel so they can do more of what they want to do in their lives. Workshop attendees will learn how “less is more” when it comes to taking care of their whole self —body, mind and spirit — for a resilient, active lifestyle. Past participants have received many benefits from Rudd’s classes.
“What I value the most is the joy of mindfully and gently rediscovering how my body can move with a genuine sense of ease,” says Director of Arts Education Jane K. Dewey with Danville Independent Schools.
Centre College professor Matthew Hallock says, “Mary’s classes are truly the highlight of my week. I leave them feeling connected to myself, clear-eyed, and profoundly peaceful.”
Rudd teaches classes and works one-on-one with people to combine physical movement and awareness. She creates a learning space in which people can take the time to slow down, to notice their unique movement patterns and then to allow integration of changes that they experience.
Centre professor,Eva Cadavid says, “Mary’s classes and individual sessions taught me to listen, trust and work with my body rather than use it as a tool.”
Somatic awareness is a whole-person approach to movement, to experience, to life itself, and can enrich the quality of one’s life.
Both April workshops are introductory, so participants can sign up for one or for both:
