Boyle County Farmers Market

The Boyle County Farmers Market has opened for the 2018 season, which started on April 14. The farmers market is located at Danville High School, 203 E. Lexington Ave., and is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This week, products at the farmers market include: homemade breads, eggs, homemade cookies, homemade goat milk soap, homemade goat milk lotion, homemade goat milk lip balm, hot brew coffee, fresh roasted coffee, flowers, lettuce, radishes, vegetable transplants, freezer beef, breakfast and lunch (includes pork, chicken, beef and egg products). Upcoming additions to the farmers market include: yeast rolls, greens, garlic, herbs, embroidery and more flowers.

One of the farmers market vendors is Grey Dog Farms, owned by Brianna Feistritzer. Feistritzer has been selling an array of flowers and vegetables at the farmers market for three years. She used to be in the nursery and design business, but decided to become a stay-at-home mom. However, she wanted to continue growing produce and decided to sell it at the farmers market. Feistritzer uses the fact that she grows produce at home to sell at the farmers market as a way to teach her kids the importance of knowing the work that goes into growing the food they eat and knowing where their food comes from.

Alongside the opportunity for a learning experience for her children, Feistritzer also loves the farmers market’s atmosphere. She loves being able to see her neighbors and people in the community, to be able to see what they are growing, and to be able to explain to people why she chooses to grow and sell the products that she does.
