Becker for Danville school board

My name is Wesley M. Cornett and I am a retired teacher and administrator. I had the opportunity to finish my last year in education as the director of schools for the Danville Independent school system.

I am writing this letter to share my enthusiastic support for Steve Becker for Danville School Board. Danville is fortunate to have a candidate of his caliber, commitment and dedication.

Steve’s commitment to the Danville Independent Schools goes far beyond personal “interests”; Steve cares deeply about the quality of education for ALL students in Danville and I watched him advocate fairly and passionately for students, families, teachers, and administrators in all of my interactions with him.

Whether it be discussing school construction, approving budgets, the school calendar, addressing new curriculum requirements and changes, and especially in his support of former superintendent Dr. Keith Look, Steve was thoughtful, asked the right questions, highly supportive and was actively engaged without “micromanaging.”

When it seemingly became unpopular with other board members in supporting Dr. Look, Steve, along with Mr. Troy McCowan, showed extreme character and supported Dr. Look with both their words and actions; that was highly impressive to me both personally and professionally.

I knew Steve to be an excellent listener who fully considers options before making important decisions. I highly encourage all residents of Danville to reelect Steve Becker on Nov. 6.
