Currently, all sixth through 12th graders in the Burgin Independent School District has a personal electronic device. This one-to-one initiative was implemented several years ago and is a contributing factor to the success of the school. To go along with this initiative, all K-5 classrooms have four iPads and four desktops computers. 

Recently, the Corning Incorporated Foundation awarded a grant for $10,500 for the Burgin Schools to take this a step further. The grant, along with allocated board funds, will be used to immediately purchase 19 13-inch Apple MacBook Airs, 19 65-inch TVs and 19 Apple TVs for the high school, middle school and elective teachers. Then, in nine months over the summer, the district will purchase 21 13-inch Apple MacBook Airs, nine 65-inch TVs and nine Apple TVs for the elementary school and the rest of the teachers.

Principal Chris LeMonds said, “For several years our teachers have sacrificed to make sure our students were one-to-one with personal devices and we now get to give the teachers the technology to match. We will be able to integrate more 21st-century learning in the classroom.”

Superintendent Will Begley said, “These Apple devices will enable our teachers to deliver the standards of their curriculum in a unique way. Many will use the tools in the Google platform. Our faculty is very appreciative of the Corning Foundation and our school board for supporting this initiative.”
