In less than two years since launching the next-generation learning experience, Kentucky Science Center has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors to its traveling exhibit in libraries throughout the Commonwealth.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the public is invited to a celebration at Boyle County Public Library in honor of the center’s milestone. The Scient in Play2Go traveling exhibit opened in September at the library, and will be up through Dec. 2.

SIP2Go brings progressive early childhood learning opportunities to communities that Kentucky Science Center can not as easily reach including Boone, Boyle, Laurel, Logan, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Oldham and Woodford counties.

“Science in Play2Go plays a critical role in addressing kindergarten readiness across Kentucky by offering its youngest citizens opportunities to strengthen 21st century skills via open-ended collaboration, and creativity through the power of play,” says Joanna Haas, CEO of Kentucky Science Center.

The exhibit was created by selecting elements of the Science in Play exhibit at the Kentucky Science Center that could be easily transported statewide to county libraries and adapted to their spaces. Kentucky Science Center also trains a full-time staff person from each community to facilitate the exhibit and provide additional early childhood learning activities.

At host libraries, there has been a 36 percent increase, on average, in new library cards issued and children’s book circulation has increased 45.5 percent during the time frames when SIP2Go is on display.

SIP2Go was created two years ago with funding support being provided by Genentech and PNC Grow Up Great and was developed in partnership with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. Planning is underway to continue the success in more counties in the coming years.
