Described by one critic as a “slow-burn survival thriller that defies expectations,” the film “Rust Creek” will have its Danville-area premiere on the campus where some of the footage was shot and that is home to its lead character, Sawyer Scott.

The 7 p.m. screening will take place Wednesday in Valhkamp Theater in Crounse Hall and is free and open to the public.

Producer Stu Pollard will be on hand to introduce the film, share some of the deleted scenes and field questions after the showing. The next morning, he will visit a film class taught by NEH Associate Professor of English Stacey Peebles, who directs the College’s film studies program.

Pollard, director Jen McGowan, and the entire crew spent two days on campus in early March 2017 filming at various campus locations. Only scenes shot at Joe McDaniel Field at Farris Stadium and Grace Doherty Library were kept in the final edit, however, along with exterior shots of campus and downtown Danville.

Many students, faculty and staff were involved as extras, and Matthew Curtis ’18 enjoyed a special role as an intern.

“Rust Creek” is the eighth film that Pollard has shot in Kentucky. Careful viewers of “Rust Creek” will find the movie “unfolding in Fern Creek, St. Matthews, Floyds For, Iroquois Park and places in Boyle, Bullitt and Franklin counties.”

The plot involves an ambitious Centre College senior who runs into trouble in the woods of Kentucky, thanks to a GPS malfunction while on her way to a job interview in Washington, D.C. during Thanksgiving break. Throughout the ordeal, perseverance and tenacity become her saving grace.

Film heroine Sawyer Scott was London-born Hermione Corfield’s first starring role. She has also appeared in films such as “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” and “Star Wars: Episode VIII — The last Jedi,” along with the TV series “The Halcyon.”
