Streetscaping ahead

A new curb, sidewalks and street lighting are in the works in downtown Danville, as laid out in the city’s streetscape plan. Early Tuesday morning, Bluegrass Contracting began work on the block of West Main between Fourth and Fifth streets. City Engineer John Cassel said in the coming days, the company will complete demolition. Lawhorn Electric will begin removing existing sidewalks and curbs, beginning at the Speedway corner of the south side of Main, and proceeding east toward Fourth Street. The work will then begin at the north corner, where crews will work their way west toward Orange Leaf. Cassel said the city hopes to have the improvements completed as soon as possible, and appreciates the community’s patience. “We hope to get some cooperation from the weather,” Cassel said.
