Free health screenings offered Saturday

Ephraim McDowell Health will host a free health screening at UK-Boyle County Cooperative Extension Service, 99 Corporate Drive from 8:30  to 10:30 a.m. on April 27. Screenings include cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk and take-home colorectal cancer screening kit (over age 50). Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to screening if they would like to have the blood test for a full lipid panel. Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water. Appointments can be made by calling (859) 236-4484. Walk-ins are welcome. Screenings are for anyone 18 years and older.

Blood donation process changing at Kentucky Blood Center

A blood drive will be held at the Danville Walmart, 100 Walton Avenue, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 on the KBC Bloodmobile. Kentucky Blood Center has implemented a new electronic blood donation process that allows donors to answer required health-history questions using a touch-screen tablet provided at the donation site.

Donors can also use QuickPass to complete those questions on their personal computer, tablet or smartphone on the same day as their donation prior to arriving for their donation. QuickPass can be accessed by visiting kybloodcenter.org and clicking on Menu and then QuickPass.

Donors can try out the new electronic system at this upcoming blood drive where donors will receive an “I’m not a chicken” shirt to show off their bravery.

Blood donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org. Walk-ins are welcome. Drive event will donate to no-kill animal shelter

Stuart Powell Ford Lincoln Mazda is bringing Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4 UR Community program to the Danville area in an effort to raise up to $8,000 for Willow Creek Sanctuary, a small non-profit no-cage, no-kennel, no-kill animal rescue that works entirely on donations and volunteers.

For every person age 18 and older who test drives a new vehicle at Stuart Powell Ford, located at 225 S. Danville Bypass between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, April 27, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to Willow Creek Sanctuary. The funds will generate much-needed money for animal care and costs related to the offering of monthly therapeutic visits to a local memory care facility to let the residents interact with some of our animals.

Animals at Willow Creek Sanctuary live in a home-like environment until the sanctuary can find them forever homes. Willow Creek specializes in domestic and wildlife animals that are orphaned, injured or in need of respite care to recuperate from traumatic events. When they are ready, the sanctuary is devoted to finding the best homes possible for them.

 

Job fair planned for Tuesday

A regional job fair will be held 1-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at The Showroom, 2405 Lebanon Road. The event is sponsored by the Central Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management.
