Our featured pets this week are Katie and Wally.

Katie is a precious 6-month-old gray tabby kitten. She was brought to the humane society as a stray in early September along with three of her littermates. The kittens were quite small and spent some time in a foster home. Katie is a friendly girl and gets along well with other cats. Katie’s brothers and sisters have all been adopted, just little Katie is left waiting to find her purrfect match. This precious kitty with big amber eyes would love to start off the new year with a special family that will give her the love and attention that she deserves.

Wally is an 8-month-old flashy tri-colored collie mix. He weighs about 40 pounds and has a medium length coat. Wally was surrendered by his owner due to lack of time to care for a pet. Wally keeps a smile on his face and a wagging tail. He is all in for getting attention from everyone he meets. Wally does pretty well on leash and would do great in a home where he can continue his training so he can reach his full potential. Wally is sure to make someone a handsome and loyal companion. Could that someone be you?

The DBCHS wishes everyone a very Happy New Year! Thank you so much for your overwhelming support in 2019. Here are some suggestions for new year’s resolutions for pet owners. Exercise your pet every day to help your pet maintain the proper weight and increase the time you spend together. Teach your pet a new trick or play hiding games with a favorite toy to exercise your pet’s brain. 

Check your feeding program to make sure your dog or cat is getting a good quality food and feed the correct amount so your pet is not overweight or underweight. Make sure your pet’s ID is up to date. Microchipping is a permanent form of identification, but make sure your contact information current. Your pet should also have an id tag, rabies tag and county dog tag where required to help get your lost pet home quickly. And most of all just love and enjoy your pet. A little extra quality time together goes a long way toward health and happiness for both you and your pet and will help make 2020 a great year.
