Raymond Sowder

1923-2020

Raymond Sowder, 96, of Erlanger, KY (formerly of Stanford, KY) passed away at home on March 27, 2020. Born on December 4, 1923 in Fonde, KY to the late Grant Sowder and Nancy Owens Sowder. He was a member of Pentecostal Fellowship Church in Lancaster, KY. For most of his life he worked as a Foreman for Frye Corporation. He is a World War II Veteran, where he served in the Army under the Air Core.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Sowder of Lancaster, KY; two daughters, Diana “Brummett” Schwier of Erlanger, KY and Sherida Bruce of Erlanger, KY; one step-son, David Lee Atkins of Waynesburg, KY; two sisters, Hazel Cornett of London, KY and Marie Black of Lancaster, KY; three grandchildren, Anthony Schwier (Jennifer) of Independence, KY, Cody Atkins of Kings Mountain, KY; Natalie Beiting (Donald) of Walton, KY; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Schwier, Abileen Beiting, Samantha Reineke and Taylor Schwier; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jess Sowder, Chester Sowder, Floyd Sowder, and Speed Sowder; and two sisters, Thelma Ball and Elsie Tatem.

A private family service has been scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY with Rev. Thomas Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery.
