Veterans who made ultimate sacrifice honored at Memorial Day event

A service honoring the U.S. veterans who have died while serving in the military was held Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens for of Memorial Day.
A brochure handed out at the event said, “The purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We spend time remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today.”
It continued, “A survey of 2,000 Americans revealed just 43% were aware it’s a holiday honoring those who died in service while in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Guest speakers included USAF Brigadier General (ret) Howard Hunt III and Lee Watts, a veteran and volunteer chaplain of the Kentucky General Assembly. Special music was provided by Aprile Hunt and Insco “Sonny” Rue, and Taps was played by Shiann Stratton.
Members of the American Legion Caswell Saufly Post 18 from Stanford presented the Colors and fired a 21-gun salute.
