Last month, Sunrise Children’s Services received $6,000 from the Thomson R. Bryant, Jr. and Betty R. Bryant Fund to go toward the installation of a sensory room (SR) on the campus of Sunrise’s Woodlawn Center Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility in Danville. This award is made possible by the Blue Grass Community Foundation’s long-standing relationship with Sunrise.

This most recent grant award was added to earlier awards to Sunrise from The Presbyterian Church of Danville, Corning Inc. Foundation, Turner Foundation, and the Heart of Kentucky United Way.

To date, Sunrise has received $16,500 for this project.

On average, a typical well-equipped SR for a school or nonprofit like Sunrise can cost $15,000. The extra $1,500 raised will go toward funding the installation of an SR at Sunrise’s foster care and family services office in Owensboro.

A sensory room is a therapeutic space that generally contains a variety of equipment to help individuals with sensory issues learn to regulate negative reactions to external stimuli. Once these rooms are completed, they will be utilized to offer extended treatment to children in Sunrise’s care.

Since September 2017, the Thomson R. Bryant, Jr. and Betty R. Bryant Fund has awarded $37,570 to Sunrise through the Blue Grass Community Foundation.
