Our pet of the week is Fency, a skinny, black and white, lab mix pup approximately 1 ½ years old. Fency got his name because of circumstances surrounding his rescue. Last week Boyle County Animal Control officers were alerted to a dog stuck in a chain-link fence. Fency had tried to go under the fence, and his collar got caught. He was suffering from heatstroke, nearly choking on his collar, and the officer was able to free him just in time. After the officer carefully moved Fency to the air-conditioned truck and gave him small amounts of water, Fency began to perk up.

And perk up, he did – Fency is the friendliest dude you could hope to meet! His tail is a wagging blur, and he gently gets on his hind legs to reach you and give kisses. Fency is submissive and smart, and he wants to learn; he almost knows “sit” and will eagerly take a treat as a reward. He hasn’t been tested with dogs or cats, but he’s a very good boy that would likely get along with almost anything or anyone.

The 8th Annual Pints for Pets is coming up soon! The humane society fundraiser was established in 2014 by dedicated volunteers and board members. We went virtual last year due to COVID precautions, so we’ve been looking forward to bringing back the traditional “pup” crawl this year.

Please join us Saturday, October 23 at Weisiger Park for an afternoon of family and dog-friendly fun, with food, live music, and more. When night falls, we’ll head downtown for the highly anticipated pub crawl. Of course, we’ll monitor the COVID situation closely and follow all CDC and state-mandated guidance; at this point, though, we expect things to go off without a hitch.

Since last year’s virtual events were well-received, we’re hosting many online activities this year, too, like a virtual happy hour (or should I say “yappy” hour?), team trivia, and bingo.
