The Boyle County girls took another step toward a state championship Wednesday when they finished as runners-up at the KHSAA State Bowling Championships in Jeffersontown.

It was the best state finish ever for the Boyle girls, who made it to the semifinals in 2021 and reached the quarterfinals last year.

The Boyle girls figure to be a threat to win a state title for years to come. Their roster consists of sophomores Ellie McMann, Chloe Rush, Olivia Toon and Shelbi Webb; freshman Alyssa Bohman; eighth-grader Emma Kondik; and seventh-graders Haven Parnass and Peyton Ramey.

Boyle’s run took it to the championship match against Graves County. The Rebels lost 3-2 in the best-of-five match, falling 189-141 in the deciding fifth game at Kingpin Lanes.

Boyle entered the 16-team championship bracket as the No. 3 seed after the qualifying round. The Rebels defeated No. 14 Campbell County 3-0 in the first round, No. 11 Cooper 3-0 in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Harrison County 3-2 in the semifinals to advance to the final against No. 1 seed Graves.

Later in the day, McMann finished fifth in the girls singles competition. McMann rolled a three-game score of 576 to qualify for the semifinals and finished with a five-game total of 898.

Charlie Cole of Lincoln County finished ninth in boys singles Tuesday with a three-game score of 639 and a five-game score of 956. He was 18th a year ago.

Tanner Million of Garrard County placed 17th in boys singles with a three-game score of 572, and Hayden Wrenn of Boyle was 31st at 467.

Boyle returned to the boys team competition after a one-year absence, losing to No. 6 Bourbon County 3-0 in the first round after qualifying 11th of 16 teams.
