Library to host celebration reception, superhero movie night, and interactive games

Each month the Boyle County Public Library offers free activities for the community. Library patrons can enjoy interactive activities such as crafting projects, games, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Board Games Club for Adults
The library will pull out its collection of board games on Saturday, April 9 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Adults are encouraged to bring a friend and try out some new games or play old favorites. The library has games for all levels of players and staff eager to show you how to play. This after-hours event will be held in the Community Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Adult D&D
Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, April 10 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. KidStir
On Tuesday, April 12, children can make Easter snacks at home as they follow along with our instructional video. Kits will be available for pickup starting Tuesday morning (while supplies last), and may also be reserved using our Curbside Pickup service. Call the Library at 859-238-7323 starting the day the kits are available to ask for a kit using curbside pickup. The video will premiere on the library’s YouTube channel. No registration required. (Ages 5-8)

Boyle County Writers
On Tuesday, April 12 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Celebration Reception for Ms. Libby
The library will host a celebratory reception on Thursday, April 14 at 12:00 PM in honor of beloved children’s librarian Libby McWhorter and her achievement in receiving KPLA’s “Miss Pickle” Outstanding Children’s Services Award for 2022. The award recognizes excellence in developing and providing children’s library services to the local community. Libby has spent her 40-year career with BCPL serving children and families, and shows no sign of stopping. Join us as we celebrate Libby’s achievement and her service to our community. The reception will be held in the Children’s Department. All are invited to attend.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Teens are invited to share their thoughts about the Library at this new advisory group. On Thursday, April 14 at 4:00 PM, join us for fun activities and share your ideas on how to improve teen programs and services at the Library. This program will be held in the multipurpose room on the 5th level. (Ages 13-18)

Superhero Movie Night
On Thursday, April 14 at 5:00 PM, watch a newly released superhero movie with your family (2021, PG-13). Our friendly neighborhood web-slinging superhero’s secret identity has been revealed and his normal life becomes mixed with his dangerous hero adventures. He asks a fellow hero for help to figure out what it really means to be a superhero. Superhero-themed crafts will be provided to create while you watch the movie. For the movie title, go to the event listing on the library’s website. This program will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

Crafters Who Care
On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials will be provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 13+)

Game On!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on 5th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)

Chess Mix
On Saturday, April 16 from 2:00-4:00 PM, visit the library and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a savory snack. This program is for all skill levels. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (All ages)

Teen D&D
On Saturday, April 16 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. At this in-person event, players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Free Tax Prep
The Boyle County Public Library has once again partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Now through mid-April, tax professionals will be set up in the library on Tuesdays and Saturdays to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.

The United Way VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment only on Saturday, April 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for people whose household income was less than $56,000 this past year. AARP tax assistance services will be available on Tuesday, April 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate-income taxpayers who are age 50 and older.
