Library to host photography workshop; document shredding event

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, crafting programs, art exhibits, and gaming events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

 

BCPL After Dark: Paint by Stickers

On Saturday, April 20 at 6:00 PM, try “painting” a different way.  Be guided by a pattern or create your own freeform masterpiece. This is a mess-free way you flex your creative muscles. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Baby Storytime

Join us for Baby Storytime on Monday, April 22 at 10:00 AM. This is a special storytime for babies and their caregivers to strengthen bonds and give encouragement for playing, reading and growing. This weekly event will be held in the Community Room. Note: This is the final session of Baby Storytime for the semester. All storytimes will take a break in May. Summer Storytime will begin on June 4. (Ages birth-18 months)

 

Healthy Choices

On Monday, April 22 at 1:00 PM, the library will host “Healthy Choices.” Offered in partnership with the Boyle County Extension Office, this program series will include lessons focused on cooking skills and stretching your food dollars. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Document Shredding Event

On Monday, April 22 from 2:00-5:00 PM, there will be a document shredding event at the library, courtesy of FNB Investment Services. A DocuBit shred truck will be on-site to shred your documents at this free event. You can watch as your items are safely destroyed. (No x-rays or plastics will be accepted, however staples and paperclips are okay.) In addition, they will also be accepting donations for the community garden at Bate-Wood Homes: vegetable seeds, herb seeds, equipment, gardening tools, etc. Complete details are available in the event listing on the library’s website. Spring Fun: Let’s LEGO!

On Monday, April 22 at 4:00 PM, kids can join us for some LEGO building. We provide the LEGOs and you get to build! Follow a pattern or build from your imagination. Come and LEGO with us! This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 6-10)

 

Y.A. Creative Club

The library hosts a weekly YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, April 23 from 4:00-5:30 PM for Ultimate Resin Crafts. For our final session of the semester, we’ll be making our own gaming dice, pendants, earrings, and other resin-based crafts. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Ages 11-17)

 

Photography In-Focus

On Tuesday, April 23 at 6:00 PM, learn about the hobby of photography from professional photographer Robin Estes. Discover what it takes to take great pictures, learn the do’s and don’ts of hiring photographers, and have all your questions about photography answered in-depth. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+}

 

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. Note: Storytime will take a break during the month of May. Weekly storytimes will resume this summer beginning on June 4.  (Ages 1-5)

 

Y.A. Gaming Guild

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, April 25 from 4:00-5:30 PM for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. For our final session of the semester, we’ll celebrate with an epic pizza party! Enjoy pizza and other delicious snacks as we play a variety of board games and video games for the Nintendo Switch. New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17)

 

Crochet Club

On Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 PM, the library will host the Fourth Thursday Crochet Club. This monthly series is focused on community, conversation, and crocheting (or knitting). Any and all fiber arts are welcome. Bring your own yarn, needles, and projects, or take from our limited supply and we’ll work independently while gathering with others. This event will be held in the Reading Room. All skill levels are welcome. (Ages 18+)

 

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, April 28 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or via the event listing on the library’s website, or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)
