The article “Citation: Northpoint employee snuck drugs into prison, caused overdoses” that appeared in Wednesday’s Advocate-Messenger, incorrectly identified Northpoint Training Facility. Northpoint is a prison run by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

NAACP banquet to be held Saturday

The Danville Boyle County branch of NAACP will be having its annual NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet, 6 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at First Christian Church, 555 East Lexington Ave., Danville. The guest speaker will be Luke Whitehead, former Louisville basketball Cardinal and President and CEO of Mixed Nation Inc. a multicultural movement with over 500,000 supporters worldwide.

Homemakers fabric sale

The Boyle County Extension Homemakers Association is having a fabric and notions sale to raise funds for their charity projects from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (Thursday) and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Extension Office, located on Corporate Drive behind the Bluegrass Community Technical College. Thousands of yards of fabric as well as hundreds of spools of thread and lots of other sewing supplies are available.

EKU to host college event

LANCASTER — The EKU Lancaster Center,  will be hosting a “College Knowledge” event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the center located at 65 Public Square, Lancaster. This event is open to all students in sixth thru – 12th grades and their parents/guardians from Garrard and surrounding counties.

For some students and their parents this will be their first opportunity to communicate about what they need to do to prepare for college, what the college process is like, and the importance of starting early when it comes to planning both financially and academically.

There will be booths on financial aid, admissions, transferring from Community College to EKU, and representatives from specific programs. Also, there will be a representative from the EKU Dual Credit Program to help explain how seniors and juniors can start taking classes while they are still in high school.
