CASA of the Bluegrass recruits and trains Court-Appointed Special Advocates so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive.

On July 1, Program Development Coordinator Tami Wilson became CASA of the Bluegrass’ executive director. She succeeds previous director Laura Weddle, who had served the community for almost 10 years.

With a background in volunteer relations, management and the organizational software used to supervise cases of abused, neglected and dependent children in the court system, Wilson was hired internally by a board of directors.

Wilson contributes this promotion to hard work and empathy. She has been an employee of CASA of the Bluegrass for six years and hopes to continue the nonprofit organization’s legacy of advocating and speaking out against the mistreatment of children.

“We can’t change the world, but we can change hearts,” Wilson said. “CASA’s mission has always stood out to me. I feel convicted to spread awareness and do my part to prevent future despair in a child’s life. By making recommendations for their best interest, I can change the trajectory of their story. Accepting this position was no small thing. I intend to put my best foot forward, continue to build rapport with my colleagues and reach out to my community as well. Anderson, Boyle, Franklin and Mercer County are worlds of their own, but those worlds become small when we lend a helping hand.”

CASA of the Bluegrass is always in need of volunteer advocates. Members of the community can positively impact the lives of abused and neglected children by serving as a CASA Volunteer.      

CASA volunteers do not require any specific education, but must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass a background check. CASA of the Bluegrass seeks compassion, objectivity, and a commitment to a child’s best interest.
